Clay Matthews, Green Bay Packers: New Deal Finally Reached
By Josh Sanchez
The Green Bay Packers made a huge move today with the signing of a key part of their defensive unit. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport announced early Wednesday afternoon that the Packers and star linebacker Clay Matthews have agreed to a long-term contract. As we searched for details of the long-term deal, FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer provided some details of Matthews’ new five-year deal.
Clay Matthews confirmed the news, when he tweeted a photograph of him signing his new deal:
This is one of the best moves the Packers could have made this offseason as they look to keep their spot among the top of the NFC. For Matthews, it is a very well-deserved extension and pay raise.
Now, it is time for the Packers to focus on re-signing their star quarterback.
