NBA superstar LeBron James is one of the best basketball players on the planet, but what many forget is that he was at one time one of the top high school football recruits in the nation. LeBron ultimately chose basketball over football, which proved to be a very wise decision, but there is one former NFL player that believes LeBron could have success in professional football and he is willing to lend a helping hand.

According to Chris Thomasson of FOXSportsFlorida.com, Joe Theismann thinks that LeBron could be a successful NFL quarterback.

Theismann isn’t suggesting that LeBron quit basketball to start up a potential football career. Instead, he wants to see the basketball star give the NFL a go once he concludes his basketball career.

“I would love to work him out and also serve as his agent,” Theismann said.  “I’ll go wherever he wants this summer.  He could play another four years in the NBA before seriously trying the NFL. . . .  There are not a lot of 38- or 39-year-old basketball players, but there are 38- and 39-year-old quarterbacks, so there’s always time for him.”

At first it seems like a joke, but Theismann is really committed to the idea. Either that or this is an elaborate trolling job on us all.

“I wouldn’t count him out,” Theismann said.  “He’s the most tremendous physical specimen in all of sports.  I think he’s certainly talented enough.  He’s intelligent.  He’s like the quarterback on the Miami Heat, but there are so many things [to being an NFL quarterback].

“There’s reading defenses. There’s throwing the ball with touch. There’s throwing a spiral in the wind.  Maybe his hands are too big.  The football is a different shape, and a basketball is obviously a lot bigger than a football.”

Once you completely read Theismann’s comments, you understand the real motivation for getting his name in headlines with LeBron James. So what is the ultimate motivation for his comments?

“I need a job,” Theismann said.

Well, there is almost no chance that LeBron will ever try to have a NFL career and he certainly wouldn’t be a quarterback, so we should just take crazy Uncle Joe’s comments and laugh them off while he desperately seeks attention.
