Dustin Keller may be with the Miami Dolphins, but he’s still pulling for his former quarterback with the New York Jets, the embattled Mark Sanchez. Much has been made about Sanchez’s future with the Jets as there was a rumor he was being shopped to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as numerous reports stating he may get cut before training camp.

But even though the team drafted Geno Smith in the second round this year, it appears Sanchez is still in the running to be the starter in 2013 and Keller thinks when it’s all said and done, Sanchez will have gotten back on the right track.

Keller spoke on SiriusXM NFL Radio and had encouraging words for his former quarterback:

"“I think the times that Mark [Sanchez] has always been the best is when the most pressure’s on him. He’s the guy who got the team to the AFC Championship two years in a row.  So he’s definitely capable, and I think he’ll be able to pick things up and get back on the right track this year.”"

It could be that Keller knows from experience that Sanchez gives opponents the best chance to win, but there has been a lot of hate directed at Sanchez in New York lately and Keller seems to be sticking up for him rather than remarking sarcastically. Keller also said that the drafting of Smith this year may light a fire under Sanchez as he’s truly being challenged for the first time in his career for a job he was handed a few years ago.

It’s going to be something to watch all season long, but if things get so ugly we have to avert our eyes again, this might be the last of Mark Sanchez we’re seeing for a long time.
