The New York Yankees of the 1990s were a saving grace for the city of New York, and it would appear the ripple effects of that dynasty are still effecting the city. Joe Torre may be long gone but his daughter is helping the family name still make headlines in town. According to NBC 4, Torre’s daughter Cristina caught a falling child after it crawled out of a window.

“I quickly got up and looked, and there was a baby kind of straddling the fire escape between the second and the third floor,” she said, via NBA 4 New York.  “All of a sudden it slipped, and it was dangling and holding on with its hands. I was still talking to 911 and I just put out my arms, and literally, it was effortless. It was meant to be. He landed in my arms.”

Torre said that because she’s a teacher, it was her natural instinct to help a child in need — except teaching a kid how to color inside the lines and catching one that has fallen out of a window is two entirely different things.

According to NBC 4, the parents of the child were arrested for child endangerment and neglect. Thankfully Torre was biking along at the time otherwise this ordeal could have ended very tragically rather than in the heroic and relieving way that actually happened.
