San Diego Chargers linebacker Jonas Mouton has been carted off the practice field during training camp today.

There is no word right now on how serious the knee injury is, but I’m sure the Chargers staff will treat it like a serious one. You can never tell when it comes to injuries like these. Slight discomfort could turn into something serious, which could result in surgery.

Mouton is beginning his 3rd NFL season, all with the San Diego Chargers. Last year he injured his shoulder during pre-season and didn’t make his regular season debut until December 2nd.

He only played in 3 games in 2012 and was expected to compete for a starting position at linebacker this season. Mouton has been a bust so far, as he needed to prove himself this summer in order to keep his roster spot. A 2nd round draft pick in 2011, can’t afford to have a serious injury this early on during training camp, as it could result in him getting released.

It will be interesting to see how the Chargers approach this, if they look to release Mouton or wait til he recovers to see if he is able to bounce back.
