Yesterday, Philadelphia Phillies infielder Michael Young said he’d only waive his no-trade clause to return to his old team, the Texas Rangers. Fox Sports’s Ken Rosenthal says that Michael Young has now changed his mind and would be willing to waive his no trade clause to go to the Boston Red Sox as well.
The Boston Red Sox are a 0.5 game out of first place in the AL East. The Rangers are 5 games behind the Oakland Athletics for first place in the AL West. If he was interested in pursuing a playoff team and a potential World Series ring the Red Sox make sense. They have the third best record in all of baseball.
The Phillies by comparison are 11.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for first place.
Michael Young is batting .279/.345/.411 through 99 games this season with 8 home runs and 34 RBIs.

Sources: #Phillies’ Michael Young only approve trade to #Rangers. Has full no-trade clause.

That last tweet should read, #Phillies’ Michael Young only WILL approve trade to #Rangers. Left out a word. Again: Full no-trade clause.

On idea of #Phillies forcing Young to bench. Yes, they could use that as leverage. But they like Young, what he means to lineup, clubhouse.

In other words, I’m skeptical #Phillies would force a confrontation with Young. Not their style. And they’ve already got clubhouse issues.
