Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Riley Cooper made some unfortunate racist comments at a Kenny Chesney concert recently and he has been under scrutiny since video of the incident surfaced. Cooper dropped a “n-word” in the video and we all knew that the league was going to respond. The response came on Wednesday afternoon.

The league addressed the situation with a statement:

The NFL stands for diversity and inclusion,” league spokesman Greg Aiello told Pro Football Talk.  “Comments like this are wrong, offensive, and unacceptable.”

When Cooper spoke more about the issue, he confirmed that the Eagles have fined him a hefty amount.

“It was a good amount of money, but that’s really not important,” Riley said, via Ryan Messick of 97.3 ESPN. “I’m willing to accept all consequences.”

The good news for the fans and the team is that Cooper seems like he will avoid any suspension.

Of course, if the team wasn’t in such desperate need of wide receiver depth after the injury to Jeremy Maclin during training camp, Cooper would have been expendable and may even be out of a job.
