Ervin Santana, Royals defeat the New York Mets 6-2

Ervin Santana pitched six innings of one-run ball in Kansas City’s victory over the New York Mets today.
Santana struck out five batters, walked three and gave up five hits in his 17th quality start of the season. The Kansas City Royals were open to hearing trade offers for the right handed pitcher who picked up the win today, before the trade deadline but decided to keep him.
At 56-52 on the season, the Royals are in the thick of playoff contention. Santana has done his part, with a record of 8-6 and a 2.97 ERA, 1.07 WHIP.
Royals Mike Moustakas went 2 for 4 with a walk and a solo home run in todays win. He went 0-10 with four strike outs in the first two games of the series against the Mets. The third baseman has been relatively productive since June. Moustakas has hit four home runs over his last 75 at bats, posting an OPS of .830 last month.
Mets pitcher Zack Wheeler gave up four runs, three earned on five hits over five innings pitched in the loss.
He struck out fix batters and walked fix, running up his pitch count to 101 pitches in just five innings. Wheeler is just at 119 1/3 total frames this year, sitting with a record of 4-2 with a 3.73 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 41/28 K/BB ratio.
Eric Young hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Mets, driving in Omar Quintanilla.
Marlon Byrd doubled to center field in the bottom of the eighth, scoring a couple batters later after John Buck singled to center field.
