Colts’ Heyward-Bey sits out of practice with sprained knee
By Corey Leahy
Wide receiver Darius Heyward-Bey didn’t participate in either of today’s practices for the Indianapolis Colts. This is coming from an injury yesterday, where coaches say he suffered a sprained left knee. He spent most of today on the field, but with a knee brace.
This injury doesn’t seem too serious, as players and the coaching staff think Heyward-Bey will be back on the field pretty soon. Andrew Luck is one of those players, here’s what he said about his new teammate,
"Yeah, it stinks when a guy goes down but it is the nature of football and hopefully it is not too serious, I don’t think it is. I feel very comfortable with all those guys, they do the right things, they run the right routes at the right time, they know how to get to the spot."
The Colts could use Heyward-Bey back in the lineup as soon as possible, as they are pretty thin at the position. Many of the receivers aside from Reggie Wayne, Heyward-Bey, and T.Y. Hilton aren’t filled with experience.
Colts offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is confident in the rest of the team, should Heyward-Bey miss an extended period of time for some reason; he said this regarding the depth of the position,
"We feel like our backups are very capable. I expect the next guy to step up."
