The Los Angeles Dodgers rode into St. Louis with a 15-game road winning streak, the longest in franchise history, but they won’t leave with it after Joe Kelly outplayed Clayton Kershaw in the 5-1 Cardinal victory.

Both pitchers stuck around through six innings with Kershaw allowing six hits and two runs, while Kelly saw his 20-inning scoreless streak end with a six hit and one run performance.

The Dodgers hadn’t lost on the road since July 6 in San Fransisco and were chasing the 1984 Detroit Tigers’ single-season mark of 17 straight road wins. They had a chance to take control when Adrian Gonzalez got an RBI single in the sixth to make it 2-1. Then Andre Either loaded the bases with a single of his own. However, A.J. Ellis bounced into a double play, the fourth Cardinal double play of the night, and the boys from L.A. failed to score again.

Eighth- inning home runs from Carlos Beltran and Matt Adams scored three runs and sealed the win for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals have won four of their last six. They are two games behind the Pirates in the NL Central. Meanwhile the Dodgers dropped just their third in 18 since the All-Star break and sit five games ahead of Arizona in the NL West.
