According to the Union-Tribute San Diego, Vincent Brown is expected to make his 2013 pre-season debut next Thursday against the Chicago Bears, a game that will be aired live on ESPN.

Brown was held out of last night’s pre-season game after missing seven camp practices with a hamstring injury. He did participate in pre-game warm ups with the team, catching passes. Brown is the favorite to start opposite Malcom Floyd this season, so he needs to stay off the shelf, and remain off the shelf if he hopes to keep rookie Keenan Allen out of the starting rotation for receivers.

The Chargers pre-season opener showed that wide receiver Robert Meachem is still buried on the depth chart. Right now, Meachem is their No. 5 receiver at best, behind Floyd, Brown, Royal and rookie Allen.

Meachem would probably be gone already if former San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith hadn’t fully guaranteed him his $5 million base salary for this season.

That’s pretty interesting, your talent isn’t the thing keeping you on this roster, your money is. He’s still a good wide receiver, just ended up on a team who has depth at that position.
