The New York Jets are still trying to figure out who is going to play quarterback this upcoming season. When we saw Mark Sanchez picking up where he left off throwing a pick-six interception to Detroit Lions pass rushing rookie Ezekiel Ansah it seemed that the Jets would return to head coach Rex Ryan’s preferred offense: the ground and pound.

“You never want to have just [16] rushes — or whatever it was in a game,” Ryan said Tuesday. “You don’t want that. But will we throw the ball more than we run it? That’s certainly a possibility.”

The Jets rushed only 16 times that game and threw the ball 42 times. The Jets did have some depth concerns at running back going into the preseason game and might have been forced to pass more than they liked.

“Who said you need to be balanced?” offensive corrdinator Marty Mornhinweg said, via ESPN New York. “You score points throwing the ball. Now you’re getting into a philosophical situation. Look it, we don’t care how we get it done — running, passing, we don’t care who gets the credit. It’s whatever it takes to win the next game.”

The risk thought might out way the reward if you don’t have faith in your quarterback.
