The Baltimore Ravens have released running back Delone Carter, quarterback Caleb Hanie, quarterback Dayne Crist, linebacker Brandon Copeland, tackle Jordan Devey, tackle Rogers Gaines and guard/center Reggie Stephens.

Carter seemed to have a shot at a roster spot after the Ravens waived Anthony Allen, but it appears they’ll instead go with Bobby Rainey behind Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce.

Carter, 26, is entering his third season and was slated to be the Colts’ fourth running back behind Vick Ballard, Donald Brown and Ahmad Bradshaw before the Ravens traded for him in exchange for wide receiver David Reed.

Last season, Carter played in 10 games last year and ran the ball 32 times for 122 yards and three touchdowns. A fourth-round pick out of Syracuse in 2011, Carter played for Ravens Offensive Coordinator Jim Caldwell during his rookie season. He started three games that year, ran for 377 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Carter wasn’t going to get many touches after the Colts obtained Ahmad Bradshaw to compete with Vick Ballard and Donald Brown for touches. Reed was though to be in the mix for a spot in the top-4 of the Ravens receiver rotation, but apparently had fallen out of favor with them.
