After being called-up to the active roster for Monday’s game vs the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals linebacker J.K. Schaffer was waived yesterday and now is back on the practice squad, as he has cleared waivers and is now back with the team.

Schaffer, a 6-0, 232 lb LB from the University of Cincinnati, is a first-year NFL player in 2013 because he was not on an NFL roster in 2012, despite playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the entire preseason before ultimately being let go during final roster cuts.

He played in all four Cincinnati preseason games and led the team in tackles (20), with one sack and one interception.

After safety Jeromy Miles was cut just hours before the Monday night game, Schaffer got called-up from the practice squad to upgrade the Bengals’ thin linebacking corps, as well as play on special teams, primarily on kickoff coverage. Expect to see Schaffer brought back up at some point this year if he’s not plucked by another NFL club.
