The Chicago Bears defense was able to hold off a late charge from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football thanks to some big plays and turnovers, and they were able to step up big in those key moments despite being without some of their top defenders.

Veteran defensive back Charles “Peanut” Tillman stayed on the sidelines during the stretch, while defensive tackle Henry Melton was carted off the field with what looked like a serious knee injury.

When you medical tests came back, it was mixed news.

Tillman was cleared to return and would have headed back on to the field if the team became in danger of losing to Indianapolis, while Melton is still awaiting results but the Bears fear their defensive tackle has suffered a torn ACL against the Steelers.

It would clearly a devastating blow to the team’s defense and it hurts Melton, who was hoping to land a big money offseason contract, directly in the wallet, but they were able to rally as a team and that has to be a positive sign moving forward.
