Tom Brady watched one former back up, Cleveland Browns Brian Hoyer, lead his team to a victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Another former back up of Brady’s is current Vikings’ back up Matt Cassel, who might start according to Tom Brady.

“I’m friends with both those guys. Matt Cassel, who may be starting this weekend. Brian, I text back and forth,” Brady said.

Ponder suffered a rib injury early in last week’s loss to the Browns.

“The biggest concern is contact,” Ponder said, via USA Today. “My mindset is I’m going to play.”

Given the secrecy of NFL teams it’d be a pretty big deal if Tom Brady let the secret out, it would certainly give away any game plan edge the Vikings were hoping for by not announcing that Cassel would start. Whoops!

Anyways, Cassel was probably excited and called just to talk to his friend and get some advice and encouraging words.
