Former New York Giants linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor sounded off on former New York Jets quarterback Boomer Esiason earlier in the week with some choice words. It was clear that Taylor isn’t a big fan of the current CBS analyst — that usually is glaringly obvious when you call someone a “dickhead” — but Esiason responded to the comments and chose to take more of a high road.

Esiason seemed disappointed with the comments, but he also wanted to clear things up.

“Never did I think I would see [dickhead] actually next to my name in a newspaper, but that’s just the way it works — the slings and arrows that we all have to endure in the business in which we work,” Esiason said. “I’ve been down this road 10 years ago, and I’m down it again.  It’s unfortunate.

“The only thing about where L.T. is wrong is I don’t hate L.T. He may think I hate him.  I don’t hate him.  And what I do hate, is I hate the fact that he wrote the book, and he basically trashed the Giants, [Bill] Parcells, [Bill] Belichick and everything else.”

Boomer shouldn’t be surprised that someone like Taylor chose the words that he did to go after him, but you never like to see your name slammed in the public.

Like Esiason said, it is unfortunate that the comments happened, but it did.

All we can hope for now is that the two men can come together and settle their differences. We think Taylor would prefer a cage match over a nice, warm embrace.
