San Francisco 49ers’ All Pro linebacker Patrick Willis will be out of the game tonight against the Houston Texans.

Willis suffered a groin injury in the 49ers’ Thursday Night game against the Indianapolis Colts on September 22nd.  Earlier in the week, he discussed his injury and his hope to play on Sunday.

“Nothing is for sure right now,” Willis told CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco. “My mindset is if I’m out there, I want to make sure I can help my teammates and help us win. Right now, it’s taking it day by day.”

“This is the first time I’ve dealt with a groin,” Willis said. “I’ve endured a lot of pain from all the years I played football from when I was a kid to now. Some things my body is able to absorb. This was a little different. It was something new. Thank God the MRI showed it wasn’t something that would keep me out for the rest of the season.”

It sounds like it is a short term type of injury for Willis, but it is the second setback for the linebacker this year.  Willis missed the entire preseason with a broken hand.  While he is a star, having no practice and no game time can’t be helping Willis’ readiness.  With the 49ers in a dogfight with the Seahawks for tops in the NFC West, it will be key for San Francisco to have a healthy Willis down the stretch.
