UPDATE: Recent reports from the City Pages indicate that the child harmed was not Peterson’s son.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is reportedly dealing with an unthinkable situation, as his two-year-old son is reportedly in critical condition after being severely beat by 27-year-old Robert Joseph Patterson.

Peterson missed Thursday’s practice to travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he checked on his son, but he has reportedly already made the trip back to Minnesota and is at Vikings facilities.

Chip Scoggins of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune passed along the latest report.

There are no details on what prompted Peterson’s trip back to the team, but it is reasonable to believe he is meeting with team executives to discuss how he will handle the situation and his plans for the immediate future.

Playing a football game during this time could be something that Peterson has no interest in doing, but he could also decide that it is the best way to deal with the horrendous situation.

Regardless of what decision Peterson makes, he has our full support.

This is something that goes far beyond a game and the man needs to do what he feels best for his family and himself.
