The Boston Red Sox beat the St. Louis Cardinals in six games to win the World Series. It was an extremely emotional win for Boston, after the tragic attacks during the Boston Marathon. The city rallied together and the “Boston Strong” campaign really took off.

The Red Sox also won the World Series at home, something they haven’t done since 1918. After winning, the Red Sox took the World Series trophy and put it on the Boston Marathon finish line, an incredible gesture.

On the Conan O’Brien show, Red Sox players Shane Victorino and Jonny Gomes talked about winning the series and what it meant to the city. They talk about how the Red Sox lifted Boston with their World Series win, but Gomes said it was the other way around.

“We’re supposed to be the strong backs to carry everyone and put smiles on their faces,” Gomes said. “But I think it was the other way around. We jumped on Boston’s back. They wouldn’t let us quit … If everyone in Boston could get a ring, they deserve one, too.”

Gomes also tells a story about Mike Napoli putting his thumbs in his mouth during a beard tug and hooking him like a bass.
