The New York Jets are 5-6 and still in contention for a playoff spot. They need to win out to stay in contention with the five other teams that entered the week at 5-6 in the AFC. The Jets have five games left in the season, and winning out would put them at 10-6. If they falter and lose one game, a 9-7 record might not be enough to give them the playoff spot.

One of the other teams likely would make it to 9-7 and could be ahead of the Jets by a tie breaker. In the six-way tie entering the week at 5-6, the Jets were at the bottom of that short list because of tie breakers.

“Our antennas are up,” right guard Willie Colon said, via the New York Daily News. “There’s a sense of urgency because of what’s in front of us. How we prepare is going to tell the story.”

He isn’t the only Jet noticing the urgency and need for perfection.

“We know how big these games are for us,” right tackle Austin Howard said. “We realize if we don’t win from here on out, then the chances of us making the playoffs are slim and null.”
