Josh Harding of the Minnesota Wild has arguably been the best story of the 2013-14 NHL season so far. He added to the storybook last night as he shutout the Philadelphia Flyers and helped the Wild snap a four-game losing streak. The netminder was only required to stop 21 shots to earn

his third shutout of the season

, but at least one of them was of the truly spectacular variety.

With Minnesota up by two with more than 11 minutes to go in the third period, the Flyers were awarded a power play. Philadelphia manages to maintain control of the puck in the offensive zone for several seconds before getting it to the front of the net. Wayne Simmonds was in front of Harding and drawing the attention of the defense.

It was then that the forward made a slick pass to Jakub Voracek, who was sneaking in the back door on the play. Doc Emrick’s call pretty much tells the whole story from that point on.

Harding had been near the top of his crease, defending against a shot that never came. Simmonds’ pass should have set up a slam dunk goal for Voracek, but it just hasn’t been that kind of season for the forward. Meanwhile, it has been this kind of season for Harding, who makes a miraculous diving save on the play.
