If Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder isn’t cleared to play following the concussion he suffered, Matt Cassel will likely start in his place. Cassel came in against the Chicago Bears game and completed 20 of 33 passes for 243 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Ponder is going through the regular concussion protocols and has yet to be cleared. There still is a lot of time before the game, but you’d think Ponder should sit out for the sake of his health.

Considering Ponder hasn’t been cleared it looks like you could almost count on him not to play. He will have already missed practices and the Vikings might not want to roll him out there with out him getting any reps during the week.

By suggesting Ponder still has a chance could just be coaches trying to keep the element of surprise and not tip their hands.
