The Detroit Lions are hosting the Baltimore Ravens as they try to bounce back from a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the snow. For the Ravens secondary that means trying to stop the league’s best wide receiver, Calvin Johnson. Ravens rookie safety Matt Elam was discussing how he planned to handle Johnson when he insulted him.

“He’s pretty old, so I don’t know how physical he’ll be,” Elam told the Associated Press. “He’s a big guy, but he’s older.”

Johnson heard the talk and fired a shot back at Elam.

“I’m getting old,” Johnson said with a laugh in a conference call Thursday with Baltimore reporters, via ESPN. “It’s all good. I’ll show him what that old man’s strength about, though.”

“He can talk all he wants. He plays back. I don’t see him every play unless I run past him,” Johnson said, via Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun.

Johnson went on to say that Elam and the Ravens other safety, James Ihedigbo, were “nothing extraordinary.” It looks like Johnson has the motivation he needs to take on the Ravens. He could put up big numbers as he looks to embarrass the rookie. He might not pull a Steve Smith and point at him while scoring a touchdown though, that isn’t Johnson’s style.
