Report: Washington will stick with RGIII as starter in 2014
Despite the Washington Redskins benching of Robert Griffin III for the remainder of the regular season, the team says there is no quarterback controversy and that RGIII will enter 2014 as the starting quarterback, according to John Klein at ESPN.com.
"“It’s ridiculous to act like this is a quarterback competition,” Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said, via the ESPN.com report. “Robert just had one of the best years as a rookie in NFL history. He didn’t have that this year. We didn’t do that again this year. To give up on him like that and say play someone else, that’s fun for people to talk about but that hasn’t entered my brain and it’s not a possibility or option.”"
Kirk Cousins is taking over the starting responsibility for the final three games of Washington’s season, but, the team says, he won’t be continuing that role heading into next season no matter how he performs.
"“We made a decision a long time ago that Robert is our quarterback,” Mike Shanahan said. “He’s our quarterback of the future. We made this decision based on what we think is best for him and it could be best for our organization. If he lights it up we’ve got a lot of options with Kirk. I hope that’s what happens.”"
