The Minnesota Vikings chances of beating the Philadelphia Eagles took a hit this weekend. The Vikings informed players that running backs Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart won’t be playing on Sunday. Both players had been listed questionable for the game.

Peterson was taken off the field on a cart last week and was still hoping to play this weekend. Peterson is the second leading rusher in the NFL with 1,221 yards so far. LeSean McCoy is the lone back ahead of him, and he plays for the Eagles. That means a match up of the league’s two best backs won’t happen today.

For the Vikings that leaves Matt Asiata and Joe Banyard in the backfield. That means the Vikings could be forced to rely on the pass offense. The Eagles have the 31st ranked pass defense giving up an average of 285.5 yards per game.
