Indians trading OF Drew Stubbs to Rockies according to reports
By Peter Smith
If the reports are true, the Cleveland Indians would be sending outfielder Drew Stubbs to the Colorado Rockies in a deal that has become an almost regular occurrence between the two teams. They also made a deal involving starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez that netted the Rockies pitching prospects Drew Pomeranz and Alex White. Jimenez gave the Indians a great second half last season, but is now set to sign elsewhere while Pomeranz and White have done next to nothing for the Rockies.
Stubbs played in 146 games for the Indians in 2013 after being acquired from the Cincinnati Reds in a deal that included Shin-Soo Choo. While big and athletic, Stubbs tended to be a feast or famine hitter for the Tribe with .665 OPS and a 1.5 WAR. Stubbs hit 10 home runs while striking out while striking out 141 times in 430 at bats. He also had 21 doubles, 2 triples and 17 stolen bases. At this point, it is unclear what the Indians are getting in return, but the free agent signing of David Murphy made Stubbs a potential trade piece.
