There was a period of time in the NFL this past decade when there was no cornerback more dominant than Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. He was a shutdown corner that just so happened to play on a terrible team, but his career was one that both had longevity and great personal success.

It’s a career that has come to an end though as the Raiders officially announced that their former Pro Bowl cornerback will retire from the game during a press conference scheduled for tomorrow.

Asomugha’s career fizzled after he left Oakland as he never panned out with the Philadelphia Eagles despite generating considerable hype during free agency in 2011. He also never worked with the San Francisco 49ers who ended up cutting him in the middle of this season. But he no doubt had his glory days and will go down as one of the best cornerbacks to have played the game.

He’s also married to the very famous and very beautiful Kerry Washington, which sort of eases the pain of having to retire from football.
