The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have ended the Greg Schiano era and hired a new manager. They hired Lovie Smith to come in and bolster the franchise and he thinks they have a solid center-piece for their defense in linebacker Lavonte David. Smith went as far as to compare David to one of the greatest linebackers in history, and definitely in the Buccaneers’ history.

“There’s not a lot of players like Derrick Brooks,” Smith said, via Pat Yasinskas of ESPN. “It’s not even fair to compare some guys in that way. But, Lavonte David, he has a chance. He’s that younger version coming up. I hear he’s a great guy.”

David has had a tremendous season and was worthy of a Pro Bowl trip even though he was some how overlooked. On the season he had 144 tackles, six sacks, five interceptions, 10 pass deflections and two forced fumbles.
