The Lakers are 14-23 on the season, and things do not look good. They are seven games out of the eighth seed in the Western Conference, are battling injuries, and are only 2.5 games ahead of the Jazz for the worst record in the West.

The best thing for the Lakers would be to continue to lose, and get a lottery pick, and it may just happen whether they want it to or not. After getting blown out by the Clippers on Friday night, the world saw how bad this team really is, and it even has players questioning the results of this season. After the loss, Pau Gasol told the LA Daily News that they just have to play hard, and that the playoffs are a long shot:

"Best case scenario, we come out everyday competing with great effort, get some bodies back and we get some good results. Then from then on, whatever that is at the end of the season and whatever record we finish with, we should be okay with it that we gave everything we have. If that means making the playoffs, that would be great. It’d be tough because of the position we put ourselves into right now."

If Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, or another one of these studs in college are wearing purple and gold, then this season should be viewed as a success. This could be a long three months for Laker fans, but fear not, Mike D’Antoni says Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash could be returning this month.
