On Friday night, the Los Angeles Lakers were absolutely decimated by the Los Angeles Clippers to the tune of a 36-point margin. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the Lakers saw their best healthy player sustain an injury, and he will be undergoing an MRI on Monday.

Pau Gasol sustained a left foot injury during the blowout loss, and because the extent of the issue isn’t known, the organization will turn to an MRI for further clarification. While it has been a “down” season for Gasol, the 33-year-old big man is still putting up 15.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game on the year, and it would be another devastating loss to LA’s rotation if he went down for any length of time.

Presumably, Gasol’s status for Tuesday night’s action against Cleveland would be very up in the air (at a minimum), but with the amount of time that an MRI can take to finish, it will be a few hours (once again, at a minimum) before the Lakers know anything long-term. There is a contingent of LA fans who really want the team to go into full-on tank mode, and if Gasol is out for any length of time, that decision becomes an easier one.
