The Detroit Lions are focusing on Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell to be the team’s next head coach and if Caldwell is hired, former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach and former Caldwell consultant Jim Tressel could join the staff in Motown.

Caldwell hired Tressel to be a consultant after Tressel resigned from Ohio State amid NCAA violations. Tressel has an offensive background dating back to his days as a quarterback for Baldwin-Wallace and later as a quarterbacks coach at Miami (OH), Syracuse and Ohio State.

Tressel would then take his first head coaching job at Youngstown State where he appeared in six Division I-AA Championships, winning four, before heading to Columbus where he won 106 games in 10 years, including the BCS Championship in 2002.

He has been out of coaching since brief stint with the Colts in 2011 when he served as a replay-review consultant and has been working as the vice president for student success at Akron.
