The Miami Heat have officially activated Greg Oden.

After the Heat traded Joel Anthony and draft picks to the Boston Celtics to acquire guard Toney Douglas from the Golden State Warriors (who acquired guards Jordan Crawford and MarShon Brooks from the Celtics), this move seemed like it would happen sooner rather than later.

As Haberstroh points out, Oden hasn’t played in a game since December 5, 2009.

Oden was the #1 overall pick of the 2007 draft out of Ohio State, but has famously had his career derailed by injuries. Oden was courted by several suitors, including the hometown Cleveland Cavaliers before deciding to sign with the Heat before the season. He signed a one-year deal with the Heat and even played in a preseason game, scoring two points on a dunk and grabbing two rebounds against the New Orleans Pelicans back on October 23.

Oden has played in just 82 total games in his career. In those 82 games, he’s averaged 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 22.1 minutes per game.

The Heat and Washington Wizards will tip at 7:00 pm EST.
