The San Francisco 49ers watched linebacker Navorro Bowman go down with a gruesome knee injury late in the game and the cart was immediately brought out to take him back to the locker room.

While the 49ers were eliminated from the post-season and will now have the offseason for any injured player to recover, the initial diagnosis for Bowman was not good.

According to 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh during the post-game press conference, the team fully expects that Bowman suffered a torn ACL when he was hit in the knee. After seeing the injury multiple times, it would be a surprise if that injury was not confirmed.

Bowman will now miss the team’s OTA’s, training camp and most likely the beginning of the season. There is a real chance that Bowman could begin 2014 on the PUP list for the 49ers, which is a big setback for their defense.

In other injury news, Harbaugh stated that starting guard Mike Iupati likely suffered a broken ankle.
