The New York Jets need to fill the special teams coordinator vacancy on their coaching staff, thanks to the departure of Ben Kotwica. The void was left when Kotwica left to take over as the special teams coach of the Washington Redskins, and the Jets reportedly have a replacement in mind.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets are eyeing LSU Tigers special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey, who is considered the “leading candidate” for the job.

While McGaughey has spent the last three seasons on the LSU coaching staff, he has plenty of NFL experience.

Prior to joining LSU, McGaughey spent four years as the assistant special teams coordinator for the New York Giants. He has also previously worked on the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos coaching staffs.
