UFC Fight Night 36 breaks record for longest UFC event
UFC Fight Night 36 was a decent event overall. Unfortunately for the UFC, their last two events have had 10 decisions out of 12 fights. More decisions usually equals a longer event, and at UFC Fight Night 36 that is exactly the case.
BloodyElbow first reported that UFC Fight Night 36 now holds the title for the longest UFC event in history. This includes events from the dark ages of MMA that had no time limits in certain fights. The 12 fight event lasted 173 minutes, 32 seconds. In other terms, the event lasted 2 hours, 53 minutes, and 32 seconds in total fight time.
These are the records that the UFC would like to avoid breaking, but it is bound to happen from time to time. Not every event can be a homerun, and some events will simply take a long time or have a lot of decisions. UFC 169 and UFC Fight Night 36 both fall in that category.
The UFC will look to buck the trend this coming Saturday at UFC 170.
