The Orlando Magic were quiet when the trade deadline arrived and passed on Thursday afternoon, but they kicked up some dust later that evening. The team bought out the contract of Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis, meaning that if he clears waivers he’ll be able to sign wherever he wants.

Davis reportedly is drawing a ton of interest now that he’s been bought out, but that interest was nowhere to be found when the Magic were shopping him at the deadline. Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Magic stepped up their game at the deadline in an effort to move Davis but found no takers.

"The Magic tried hard to move Davis before Thursday’s trade deadline but were unable to find a deal to unload him. The Los Angeles Clippers are the frontrunners to sign Davis, league sources said."

It’s unclear if the Magic had talks with the Clippers or if they had trade talks with anyone else about Davis. It’s obvious that they called teams but it’s not clear how far along talks got.

Davis is a free man now, and his value has gone up now that only a contract need to be signed to get him and assets don’t need to be moved.
