It’s strange to believe it actually happened even though it though it was quite expected.

The Carolina Panthers have cut arguably the best player in their franchise’s history, Steve Smith. In his career he has 836 catches for 12,197 yards and 67 touchdowns

Smith, who is now 34, said the team did not ask him to restructure his contract where he will make $7 million under this year’s salary cap. The team will still have to pay him $3 million even though they released him and he counts $5 million against the cap.

He spend 13 years with the team and was the face of that franchise for a long time so it will be jarring to see him on another team next year.
