The Dallas Cowboys have a need for a starting defensive end who can sack the quarterback after the team released the franchise’s all-time sack leader DeMarcus Ware on Tuesday and later signed with the Denver Broncos.

Earlier today we reported that the team is interested in former Chicago Bears end Julius Peppers and the Star-Telegram reports the team is also interested in former Minnesota Vikings end Jared Allen, provided his price tag comes down.

Allen had 11.5 sacks last season and has more career sacks than Ware, but the issues for the Cowboys is if they’ll be able to fit him in under the cap where they have only $8 million in cap space.

Allen reportedly is seeking $10 million per season and with the team’s pressing needs at defensive tackle along with end, could find it tough to add Allen unless he drops his price tag, perhaps by as much as $5 million.

The Cowboys looking for a bargain when they should have just compromised with Ware.
