Matt Schaub traded to Oakland Raiders for 6th round pick
The Oakland Raiders completed their trade for former Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, according to Ian Rapoport as the Raiders will surrender a sixth round pick for a player who may be the team’s starting quarterback in week 1.
Schaub will compete with Matt McGloin, Terrelle Pryor and any quarterback the team may draft in May’s NFL draft to be the starter.
The acquisition of Schaub who had been the team’s starter for the last six and a half years means they won’t necessarily be obligated to take a quarterback in the first round and can take the best player available, such as Sammy Watkins or Khalil Mack if they are available and take a quarterback in a later round.
Schaub is merely a short-term solution at the position, so I’d still expect them to draft a quarterback who can develop into a long-term fit and a potential franchise quarterback, but it allows them some flexibility.
