The St. Louis Rams are reportedly set to sign backup quarterback Shaun Hill this week after he mulled the idea of re-joining the Detroit Lions or heading out to St. Louis to backup Sam Bradford.

According to Adam Caplan, the deal will be just a standard one-year deal but it will take Hill to the Rams and a surprisingly attractive situation for him.

With Sam Bradford rehabbing his torn ACL, there’s a very good chance that Shaun Hill starts the season as the Rams starting quarterback. While the plan isn’t to have Hill replace Bradford, the injury concern is there and rushing him back won’t be high on the Rams list of things to do.

Besides, Hill flourished in his role behind the oft-injured Matthew Stafford as he played plenty in Stafford’s first few years in the league and has made a habit out of finishing games that Stafford physically can’t. The Lions quarterback made strides with his health in 2013 though, meaning Hill’s services are probably better served in St. Louis than they are in Detroit.
