The New Orleans Saints upgraded their secondary earlier in free agency with the signing of pro bowl safety Jairus Byrd and could be closing in on a deal with future Hall of Fame cornerback Champ Bailey, according to CBS’ Jason LaCanfora.

Bailey, 35, battled injuries all season with the Denver Broncos last season which led to his release after only appearing in five games in 2013.

Bailey visited with the Saints earlier this week and was waiting to schedule visits with other potential suitors depending on how his visit with New Orleans went, so with this news today, it must have went very well.

Bailey is far removed from the player he was during his prime as he has not recorded more than three interceptions in a single season since he led the league with 10 in 2006, but his veteran leadership should be a welcome addition to the Saints.
