Wilson himself was actually the first to break the news.
Wilson signed with the Patriots last year, but was placed on injured reserve before the regular season began.
After the team signed Patrick Chung on Thursday, the writing was on the wall.
Wilson was originally drafted with the 64th overall pick in 2001 NFL Draft and he quickly became one of the most feared safeties in football.
