Brian De La Puente, Bears agree on 1-year deal
By Shaun Church
Former New Orleans Saints center Brian De La Puente has agreed to a one-year deal to join the Chicago Bears, according to Adam Schefter.
De La Puente spent three seasons bouncing around the NFL before finding a home in New Orleans for the past three-plus seasons. Originally an undrafted free-agent signee of the San Francisco 49ers, De La Puente developed into a solid center for Drew Brees the past three seasons, starting 48 games since 2011 and allowing just seven sacks according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required).
The Bears get a center with plenty of tread left on the tires and a leader along the offensive line. On just a one-year deal, look for De La Puente to go out and prove he can be a franchise center. This is a good move for the Bears—Jay Cutler has to be happy.
