The Chicago Bears worked out Josh Freeman on Monday but the team is not likely to sign him to a contract this week or any of the following weeks. While a workout implies interest — and there was clearly that from Chicago in Freeman — not enough happened at the Monday workout to convince the Bears that Freeman is ready to be signed.

The Bears are clearly in the market for another quarterback but may end up settling for Jordan Palmer. While he’s not the flashiest of names, he knows the system and may ultimately be the best fit.

As for Freeman, his opportunities have dried up quickly and he could very well be done in the NFL if he can’t get it together and land at least a backup job with someone this offseason.
