Many pundits around the NBA believe power forward Pau Gasol’s career with the Los Angeles Lakers is coming to an end at the conclusion of the season.

The Lakers flirted with the idea of trading Gasol and both the Charlotte Bobcats and Phoenix Suns showed a lot of interest, but in the end, first round picks were valued too highly and the Lakers are holding out hope they can convince Gasol to return.

Although a report that surfaced Wednesday suggested that Gasol’s career with the Lakers is indeed coming to a close, that may not be the case.

“I think the Lakers have a chance to keep Pau Gasol on a one-year deal, and I think that would be enhanced if D’Antoni is not here. It’s almost like a choice between Pau Gasol and Mike D’Antoni,” Mark Heisler told Hoops Hype.

Heisler believes the Lakers could use Gasol to try and lure another star, possibly even in an eventual trade.

Gasol is averaging 17.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 blocks per game this season.
