The Carolina Panthers have signed former Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed Dickson to a one-year deal, according to Aaron Wilson.

The Ravens had signed Owen Daniels earlier to fill the No. 2 tight end role opposite Dennis Pitta so there was no room for Dickson, 26, who had offers from the team and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But the best fit for him is with the Panthers where he will complement starting tight end and leading returning receiver Greg Olson on the team and could be a safety valve for Cam Newton and take some of the coverage away from the blossoming Olson.

Dickson appeared in all 16 games last year for the Ravens but was only able to record 25 receptions for 273 yards and a single touchdown despite Pitta missing the first 12 games of the year.

The Panthers are still in need of finding as many pass-catchers as possible between now and the start of the season after losing Steve Smith, Brandon LaFell and Ted Ginn earlier this offseason.
