San Jose Earthquakes vs. Columbus Crew: 10 Bold Predictions

Mark Watson’s San Jose Earthquakes return to action on Sunday, Apr. 13 when they host Gregg Berhalter’s Columbus Crew at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The bye week should prove to be very beneficial for the Quakes, while Columbus will need to get their act in order after getting bludgeoned 2-0 by Toronto FC at home.

Kickoff for the Sunday matinee is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET and will be televised by UniMas. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for the match between the San Jose Earthquakes and the Columbus Crew.

1. Alan Gordon will score

Chalk it up in stone: Gordon is going to whip the San Jose fans in a frenzy. Enough said.

2. Jon Busch with at least five saves

Jon Busch has made a name for himself as a goalkeeper of renown in Major League Soccer. Look for TheJon do make at least five saves on Sunday.

3. Clarence Goodson with an assist

USA Men’s National Team regulars always seem to step it up when the going requires it, and Clarence Goodson is an example of that. Goodson will not score, but he will get an assist.

4. Steven Lenhart on goal for San Jose

Arguably one of the most polarizing figures in the league of recent memory, Steven Lenhart will get on goal for the Quakes and give some well-needed separation.

5. Chris Wondolowski on goal for San Jose

Wondo knows how to score goals. Period. So chalk up another goal for Chris Wondolowski, which will be his third of the season.

6. No goals for Federico Higuain

Federico Higuain has been a reliable source of scoring for Columbus last year, but on Sunday, the well will run dry. There will be no goals for Higuain against the Quakes.

7. No goals for Victor Bernardez

At the same time, Quakes trigger man Victor Bernardez will have it rough against the Crew back line. Don’t expect any goals from Bernardez but maybe expect an assist.

8. Bernardo Anor on goal for the Crew

From Bernardez…to Bernardo. Bernardo Anor has had a solid year early for Columbus, and this South Florida product will score the only goal for the Crew on Sunday.

9. At least 35 fouls and five cards

This is going to be a chippy match, one that fans on both teams will vent about for sure. The MLS Multiplex boldly predicts at least 35 fouls and five cards of any color.

10. You know what they say…Goonies Never Die

So chalk this one up as another victory for the San Jose Earthquakes. Because, once again, the old saying holds true. Goonies Never Die. Well, at least on Sunday at Buck Shaw they won’t.
