The Minnesota Vikings are looking at what they should do with their draft picks this may and it appears rather certain that one of those picks will be a quarterback. It’s a question of which pick will become the Vikings quarterback of the future.

Right now most mocks have the Vikings going after a quarterback with their first pick but news that they’re working out Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo seems to suggest that a quarterback could come later in the draft.

Like many teams, the Vikings are very uncertain about the future career of Johnny Manziel and they’re not sold on the class of quarterbacks being sold as ‘can’t-miss’. Garoppolo seems like a Joe Flacco name that can shoot up the draft boards and go from little known college quarterback to first-round pick.

If the Vikings replace Christian Ponder — a guy they reached for in 2011 — by spending a first round pick reaching for Garoppolo, then things could get ugly with fans. But the Vikings may be looking at trading back in the draft, amassing the slew of picks Rick Spielman wants and still land Garoppolo later in the round.
