On Sunday, San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested in the Los Angeles International Airport for causing a scene in the security line and reportedly getting belligerent and claiming that he had a bomb.

Since his arrest, Smith has been booked by the Los Angeles Police Department for California Penal Code 148.1(a) – False report of a bomb threat. False report of a bomb threat is punishable by up to a year in jail.

Adam Schefter of ESPN passed along the news:

The 49ers issued the following statement on the Aldon Smith incident shortly after news surfaced:

“We are disappointed to learn of the incident today involving Aldon Smith,” General Manager Trent Baalke said in the statement. “As this is a pending legal matter and we are still gathering the pertinent facts, we will have no further comment.”

It will be interesting to see what the next step for Smith is, and how the 49ers will respond.
